Montefalco (approx. 10-15 min): Known as the "Balcony of Umbria" for its sweeping views of the valley. It is world-famous for Sagrantino wine; visiting a local winery for a tasting is a must.

Iconic & Architectural Wineries

  • Tenuta Castelbuono (The Carapace): A must-visit for art and wine lovers. The winery itself is a sculpture—a giant copper "tortoise shell" rising from the hills. It is visually stunning and produces excellent Sagrantino.
  • Arnaldo Caprai: This is the winery that put Sagrantino on the world map. It’s a large, professional estate offering a variety of tours.
  • Scacciadiavoli: One of the oldest estates in the area (founded in 1884). It’s an impressive vertical winery built into a hill.

Authentic & Family-Run Estates

  • Cantina Fuccelli: Known for being incredibly welcoming. Their tastings are famous for being generous, usually served with local snacks like bruschetta, honey, and olive oil.
  • Antonelli San Marco: A beautiful, organic estate. It’s very historic and offers more than just wine; they also produce olive oil and flour.
  • Cantina Fongoli: Perfect if you prefer natural and biodynamic wines. This is a rustic, fourth-generation family farm that avoids modern additives and uses traditional methods.

Assisi (approx. 30-40 min): A spiritual and artistic highlight featuring the famous Basilica of Saint Francis and stunning frescoes by Giotto. For a unique perspective, you can book a panoramic Tuk Tuk tour here.

Marmore Falls (approx. 1 hour): One of the highest man-made waterfalls in the world. Ideal for hiking through the surrounding park; be sure to check the "water release" schedule before you go.

      Lake Trasimeno (approx 50 mins)

Visit lakeside villages like Castiglione del Lago or take a ferry to Isola Maggiore or Isola Polvese for a relaxing day by the water.
